Hotel Manager - Job Profile

Managers are responsible for the overall operation of a hotel on a daily basis. Hotel Managers ensure hotel staff meet guest needs as well as running every area of the hotel from maintenance to marketing the hotel.

How do I become a Hotel Manger?

It takes many years of both academic and work related experience to be responsible for the running of a major hotel or similar property. An experienced hotel manager will have studied either at a Diploma or Bachelor level or have worked in the hospitality and tourism industry, in several areas such as food & beverage, front office, marketing or human resources for example.

How much can I earn as a Hotel Manager?

Hotel Managers as a guide and with appropriate training and experience will earn approximately $1,000+ per week. This figure should be used as a guide only and will vary between locations and types of hotels/motels etc. Many Hotel Managers command excellent earnings, but this will always depend on the hotel employing the person, what is required from the position, and the experience a person may bring to the organization 

How many hours can I expect to work in a week?

The role of a Hotel Manager rarely fits into that of a 9-5 job, and Managers are often required to work all kinds of hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays. 

What are my employment prospects?

Hotel Managers are employed across several sectors including Accommodation, Pubs, Taverns and Bars. Employment opportunities are very good, with some managers choosing to open their own businesses. There is also the opportunity (with the appropriate level of experience) for overseas or international travel.
