New research released today in the September Australian Retailers Association (ARA) Australian Retailers' Index revealed confidence among SME retailers was the lowest of any sector, falling 10 percentage points compared to a fall of eight percent for the general SMEs nationally.

Peak retail industry body the Australian Retailers Association (ARA) said the Reserve Bank of Australia's (RBA) decision to cut the cash rate by 0.25 points today may be too late for many struggling small retailers.
ARA Executive Director Richard Evans said that the cut won't be felt for at least three to four months and damage as already been done for smaller retailers who have borne the brunt of heavy handed monetary policy since late last year.
