The Millennial Movement : The ARA’s Retail HR Forum **SOLD OUT**

The ever-changing retail landscape sees new generations growing in importance. With millennials now making up a large portion of the retail sector, retailers need to invest in their staff to enhance their training and development processes to transform retail from a stepping-stone industry into a long-term and fulfilling career.

With the next generation of future retail leaders in sight, the Australian Retailers Association (ARA) paints a new picture for retail. The ARA’s next Retail HR Forum, will discuss how retailers can harness this increasingly influential generation to not only ensure the longevity of Australian retail, but cultivate the next generation of future leaders.

Hosted by Alecia Rathbone, Deputy CEO of Foundation for Young Australians (FYA), this exclusive event will be led by five distinguished Retail and HR specialists. Shifting the industry’s current mindset, the ARA’s Millennial Movement Forum will encourage HR professionals to think beyond a quick hire, and consider how each candidate will benefit the entire business.

Alecia Rathbone

Alecia is passionate about social justice and how we can all play an active role in  shaping and contributing to the  communities in which we live.

In her role at FYA, Alecia is responsible for leading the FYA team to efficiently and effectively deliver the strategic priorities of the organisation, work in collaboration with all team members to create a strong organisational culture, work to diversify and grow revenue and deliver on financial performance and represent the organisation externally.

Alecia joined the FYA team in 2012 and during this time has also held the roles of Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer.

Prior to her role at FYA, Alecia was the Chief Operating Officer of Girl Guides Victoria, which is part of the largest organisation for girls and young women in the world.

Alecia is currently a non-executive director and Co-Chair of the Board of Directors of YWCA Victoria and a member of the CPA Australia Public Sector and Not for Profit Committee.

Alecia has a Bachelor of Commerce, is a Certified Practicing Accountant, and has a Graduate Certificate in Management of Not for Profit Organisations.


Anthony Wheaton is very much a consumer and retail generalist and likes to use his experience, knowledge and energy to help individuals, small businesses and large organisations adapt and evolve to the changing environment around them. At Australia Post, Anthony leads the Sales & Network Segments function for Australia Post’s network of over 4000 Post Offices which in turn service every community in Australia. As the needs of Australia Post’s customers change, the role of the Post Office in Australian communicates is also changing; driving a deep and fast paced transformation across all aspects of the business but most importantly for the people who work in Post Offices. Over the past two years, Anthony’s team have focused on the enablement of Post Office teams; developing new capability programs and service solutions so that those teams are empowered to deliver great experiences for all customers using the Post Office. Anthony is also responsible for ensuring that regional and rural communities don’t miss out on opportunities to participate in the digital economy and one of the real perks of his job is travelling across Australia to deliver eCommerce education programs to small business customers seeking to grow their reach.


Lisa Fisher is the Head of HR for Retail Zoo and has over 20 years’ experience in HR and Operations and is passionate about developing an engaged workforce who deliver on the customer promise.  Lisa and her team are responsible for the Team Member experience within the four brands across both company and franchise networks.


Highly experienced HR Executive with extensive generalist HR capabilities coupled with a Remuneration and Performance Management specialisation.


A dynamic Learning and Development professional with more than 16 years of experience designing and delivering training solutions in the retail, sports, education and hospitality sectors.

Proven success in developing and executing end to end learning programs in operational, classroom and project settings.

Passionate about motivating and inspiring individuals and teams to succeed through fun, immersive and meaningful learning.


Steve began his retail career at Myer/Grace Bros on the Management Development Program, where he held various roles from Stores Management to Buying during his twelve years with the company.

He then joined Nike Australia where he took on the role of Retail Director. Shortly after, Steve was offered the opportunity to move to NIKE’s world headquarters in the U.S. to head up the retail division for North America, including the iconic NIKETOWN flagship stores.

After seven years with Nike, Steve moved to eyewear giant Luxottica in Sydney to head up the Sunglass Hut brand and lead the entry of the brand into Asia.

Steve then moved to Melbourne three years later to take on the role of CEO for denim specialist Jeanswest, which is now positioned as a key player in the Jeanswear market. He held that position for four years.

Steve is currently the Co-founder and CEO of Retail Prodigy Group, NIKE’s retail franchise partner across Australia and New Zealand. After six years in operation, RPG has opened 60 Nike stores and still continues on a solid growth path.
