New research shows DIY improvements a popular activity this Easter

Beyond chocolate, hot cross buns and holidays, DIY projects are set to be a main activity over the Easter break with Australians tipped to spend $6.4 billion on home improvements and renovations. 

Research by the Australian Retailers Association, in conjunction with Roy Morgan, projects that over a third of Australians 18+ (7.5 million) are planning to undertake DIY projects during the Easter long weekend.

February retail sales record 6.4% year-on-year growth

Retail sales have recorded 6.4% year-on-year growth in February 2023 – bolstered by cafes, restaurants and takeaway, and food categories.

According to figures released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), shoppers spent more than $35 billion across the country in February.

January retail sales increase 7.5% year-on-year

Retail sales experienced solid year-on-year growth in January 2023 – an increase of 7.5% on the same time the previous year – according to figures released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

Shoppers celebrated the New Year in their stride, spending more than $35 billion across the country. There were significant year-on-year sales increases for cafes, restaurants and takeaway (up 26.3%), department stores (up 16.6 %) and clothing, footwear and accessories (up 17.5%).
