Government’s plans on WFH legislation show there’s been no reset in relationship

Premier Ben Carroll offered a range of amendments to the work from home legislation before Parliament during a meeting today with leading Victorian and national employer groups.

While the Premier’s concessions are significant, they do not fix fundamentally flawed legislation that will damage Victoria’s economy and put jobs at risk.

The business groups were crystal clear with the Premier – the Bill should be abandoned, and no amendment can fix its fundamental problems.

The Government has chosen not to do that reflecting there has been no genuine “reset” in the relationship.

Business remains united in its opposition to the legislation because it threatens jobs in Victoria. The business groups believe the Government’s commitment to the “grow the economy” is now seriously questioned.

There is no clear plan to turn around Victoria’s deteriorating economic performance which puts it behind every other state in the nation.

Victoria already has the highest unemployment rate in the nation and at a time when households and businesses are under pressure, Victoria cannot afford this legislation.

The groups that met with the Premier today were the Australian Industry Group, Australian Retail Council, Business Council of Australia, Housing Industry Association, Property Council of Australia, Victorian Automotive Chamber of Commerce and Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Urban Development Institute of Australia (Victoria).
