Retail Voice CEO Message: 27 March 2024

With Easter break kicking off on Friday, we wish you and your teams a successful and enjoyable holiday period.

Our full set of projections for the Easter weekend, in partnership with Roy Morgan reveals Aussies are tipped to spend around $18 billion across the three categories of travel, treats and DIY – up about $800,000 from 2023.

Whilst this is a solid result in an otherwise difficult economic landscape, the total spend is bolstered by Australia’s population growth of 2.5 percent across the past year. A breakdown of the Easter spending projections is available

The ARA continues its fight against retail crime in partnership with state governments around Australia. Today, the ARA participated in a press conference alongside New South Wales Minister Sophie Cotsis to remind shoppers of tougher penalties in place for those who abuse retail staff.

This Easter, in NSW, criminals will face jail time if they assault or harass our frontline workers.

We continue to advocate for other states to follow in the footsteps of South Australia, New South Wales and Western Australia to implement tougher penalties for the assault and abuse of retail workers.

With the Greens’ proposed bill for divestiture laws targeting supermarkets in Federal Parliament today, the ARA has been vocal about this poorly conceived idea as one that could escalate grocery prices for consumers.

We have advocated to government that the most likely outcome of any forced divestment would be to disrupt the economies of scale retailers have painstakingly built. You can read our statement on the proposed divestiture laws

Finally, our prestigious annual CEO Lunch is taking place on 23 May in the stunning Meers Hall at the Art Gallery of NSW.

Renowned for its agenda setting conversations, this year we are delivering an exclusive conversation on the impact of Artificial Intelligence in retail from global innovation leaders Google and Deloitte.

Tickets are strictly limited, don’t miss out. More information about the event and speakers can be found
