Reducing energy consumption is currently being overlooked in the current environment, and the only way to reduce power costs is to get wiser about how you use electricity .
Energy solutions company, Sustainable Focus, has demonstrated that businesses could reduce their power bills between 50 – 70 per cent if they adopt new, high-technology energy management systems.
Energy-saving measures vary from using solar panels, diesel generators and fully-automated electricity control systems which reduce power use during times of peak demand.
Retailers can also use efficient LED lighting and the replacement or modification of inefficient appliances, air-conditioning, water heating and refrigeration.
Businesses which have already dramatically cut their power costs by taking better control of their energy use included:
- The Reject Shop: which cut electricity use by 50 percent through automated energy systems that monitored power use across its 300 outlets nationwide and generated reports and alarms when stores were not running at optimal efficiency.
- The City of Playford: saved $240,000 a year (about 45 percent of its energy bill) at its Operations Centre, Civic Centre and other local government sites through an automated energy management system that included electricity monitoring and controls, LED lighting and solar power generation.
- ANCOL SA: one of the nation’s largest stationery suppliers –cut energy use and costs by 70 percent through a multi-technology-upgrade with an automated energy control system at its core which allowed energy use to be optimised and remotely controlled.
Sustainable Focus Managing Director Rob Smith said, “Businesses using clever technology can smooth out their power bills by turning off non-critical power during times of high network costs or switching across to their in-house solar or diesel generation.”
Implementing energy solutions is a critical tool for businesses who are keen to insure themselves against high energy prices.
