Melbourne Central offers a sweet exchange for unwanted Christmas gifts

From 13 until 27 December, return your unwanted gift or regret-purchase at Melbourne Central’s ‘The Returning’ pop-up store.

Melburnians will bring their unloved items, no matter where they’ve been purchased, and exchange for a Melbourne Central Gift Card preloaded with cold hard cash, up to the value of the returned item, so you can start spending straight away – talk about instant gratification.

Shoppers will also have the chance to pocket another man’s treasure, by swapping their item for something else at the store. Feeling guilty for returning that unloved gift from Great Aunt Fiona? Don’t! All proceeds and products will be donated to charity partner Property Industry Foundation, in support of Melbourne City Mission – a cause dedicated to providing a range of other support mechanisms to assist at-risk and homeless young people.

Being the CBD’s go-to hub for all things food, fashion, and culture, Melbourne Central Centre Manager, Ryan Ling said a pop-up store to return or swap gifts, will further elevate the shopping centre’s drive to provide the most fun and original shopping experience this Christmas, while also recognising a more sustainable way to shop.

“Melbourne Central is renowned for its vibrant and cultural buzz, and over the years, we’ve created a series of experiences which serve as a festive pitstop for all Melburnians. “We’ve recently discovered that the appeal of a pop-up store to return or swap gifts is strong: 84 percent of Australians would be extremely likely to visit. Not only would the store bring our shopping festivities to life, but it will deliver a fun and simple solution to the inevitable pain points around Christmas time – receiving unwanted gifts!” said Ryan.

So if you’ve been given another pair of socks, pointless ornaments, and unwanted toiletries, pack em’ up and bring them along to Level 2 at Melbourne Central for a redeemable voucher to spend on something you want. Or who knows, perhaps you’ll find yourself loving some pre-gifted treasure instead!

About Melbourne Central: Melbourne Central is one of the most popular shopping destinations in Australia with around 56 million visitors every year and over 300 stores, providing shoppers with an eclectic retail experience and access to a broad mix of local and international brands and pop-up shops.
