Online sellers say after-hours delivery to be popular in the future of e-commerce

Aussie consumers have voted on the services they would most like to see in online shopping in the future, and online sellers have admitted what they can realistically offer. The results have revealed surprisingly similar outcomes, with more than 50% of consumers and more than 60% of online sellers saying the most sought-after and likely service to emerge is after-hours delivery.

The results come from an independent, nationally representative panel of 1009 Australian consumers who made at least three online purchases in the last six months, and commissioned by parcel delivery service CouriersPlease (CP). CP also carried out a second survey of 193 online sellers.

When the consumer panel was asked which services they would like to see in the online shopping industry in the future, weekend parcel delivery topped the list, with 60% of all respondents choosing this, while 52% of respondents wanted after-hours delivery.

When the panel of online sellers were asked which service they were most likely to offer the public if available, 67% chose same-day delivery, followed by 61% who chose weekend parcel delivery. Consumers, however, aren’t as concerned with receiving their packages so quickly with half saying they want same day delivery.

A personalised courier service with the same regular courier delivering parcels every time and virtual 3D modelling scraped in at the bottom of the list of services that online consumers want, at 13% and 10% respectively.
