    What is First Responders Day?

First Responders Day takes place in retail stores for one day only on the last Thursday in June, this year being Thursday 30 June 2022.

This event encourages retailers large and small to combine their efforts and thank first responders for their courage, commitment and contribution to protecting our Australian community during time of crisis by offering a special discount to these workers at all participating Australian retailers.

Our first responders are ordinary people with an extraordinary commitment to protecting and saving others. Some work in the field day-to-day, some follow the call-to-action to assist during times of crisis, the common thread is our first responders all selflessly dedicate their time and lives to protect and save others.

    When is First Responders Day?

By participating in this campaign, you must honour all offers to all categories of First Responders listed above.

What if a first responder is working on the day of this event and can’t get into the store?

Promotions are at the discretion of the individual retailer, however we have selected Thursday as timing given the late night shopping provisions in most areas. Some participants may wish to extend their offering over the weekend. Please contact the participating store to enquire.

    What is the offer?

Each participating store is offering a special promotion to First Responders on the day. These offers will vary from store to store. Please note we will publish the full list of offers on the campaign website 48 hours prior to the event day.

Will the retail offer be available online?

This is primarily an instore event to encourage our first responders to connect with the retail industry so we can say ‘Thank you” for your efforts in protecting our community. Unfortunately, there are no means to check First Responder identity online. Some retailers may choose to provide offers online, please check with the participating store for more details

How will stores manage social distancing if this event attracts large crowds?

There are social distancing measures in place within all stores already. We encourage everyone to abide by the existing rules. We have selected a day which has extended trading hours and the retail wide nature of this promotion should ensure there is adequate space and time for everyone to participate.

How will store staff vet identities?

We are asking First Responders to bring a Photo ID which shows their work identity. Alternatively, they can shop in their work uniform. This will ensure your staff can adequately identify the customer’s eligibility.

How will retailers verify someone’s online identity?

Unfortunately, there are no means to check First Responder identity online so the retailer can decide to make this an in-store event only.

Is there a limit to how much First Responders can buy?

Not on this day - although some limits may be imposed by particular stores to reduce obvious hoarding.

How do I find out more?

This section of the ARA website is devoted to this event and contains further information. The ARA is not associated with any individual offers, so please contact the store directly for more information on a particular offer.
